CHAMELEON DIAMONDS
A diamond that changes color. From deep olive green to warm golden tones, the chameleon diamond reveals one of nature’s most unusual phenomena under specific conditions.
NATURE’S COLOR-CHANGING DIAMONDS
Chameleon diamonds are a distinctive group of natural fancy color diamonds with the ability to change color temporarily under certain conditions.
Unlike most fancy color diamonds, their appeal lies not only in color intensity, but in the rare transformation itself.
COLOR AND CHARACTER
Chameleon diamonds are typically seen in olive green, grey-green and brownish tones.
Stones with a cleaner olive-green color, strong clarity and lively brilliance are generally more desirable, while larger examples with attractive color characteristics can be especially valuable.
TWO TYPES OF CHAMELEON DIAMONDS
CLASSIC
Classic chameleon diamonds typically show a greenish, greyish or olive-green body color that can temporarily shift toward warmer yellow tones under certain conditions.
REVERSE
Reverse chameleon diamonds display a different color response, reacting to light and temperature in a way that differs from the classic type.
ONE OF THE DIAMOND WORLD’S MYSTERIES
What makes chameleon diamonds exceptional is their ability to respond to their surroundings.
After exposure to heat or a period in darkness, a classic chameleon diamond can shift from greenish grey or olive green to shades of yellow and yellow-orange.
The change is temporary. Under normal light and temperature, the diamond gradually returns to its original color.
The exact scientific cause is still not fully understood, making chameleon diamonds one of gemology’s most intriguing natural phenomena.
