WHAT ARE THE 4 C'S?
The four Cs - Carat, Cut, Clarity and Color - are the international standards used to evaluate a diamond’s quality.
CARAT
Carat describes a diamond’s weight. One carat equals exactly 0.20 grams and is divided into 100 points for maximum precision. Carat indicates the weight, while cut and proportions determine how large the stone appears.
COLOR
Color describes how colorless a diamond appears and is graded by GIA on a scale from D to Z.
D represents a completely colorless diamond, while the scale gradually moves toward subtle yellow or brown tones at Z.
CLARITY
A diamond’s clarity refers to the presence of natural inclusions (internal characteristics) and blemishes (external characteristics), formed during its creation deep beneath the earth’s surface. These details can vary in size, number, position, and visibility, and are assessed on a scale developed by GIA (Gemological Institute of America). The scale ranges from Flawless (FL), where no imperfections are visible even under 10x magnification, to Included (I), where flaws are visible to the naked eye. Inclusions may affect the way light reflects within the diamond, influencing its brilliance and overall beauty.
CUT
Diamonds are renowned for their ability to capture and reflect light. Cut refers not only to shape - round, oval, heart, marquise or pear - but to the craftsmanship behind the stone. Proportion, symmetry and polish determine how precisely each facet interacts with light, creating brilliance and fire.
