RUBIES
Rubies have been admired for centuries for their intense red color, exceptional durability and enduring significance. Formed deep within the earth over millions of years, every natural ruby is unique in color and character.
Rubies belong to the corundum family. Their red color is created by traces of chromium within the crystal structure, ranging from bright red to deep, intense tones. The celebrated Pigeon Blood Red designation is associated with rubies of exceptional color quality.
With a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, ruby is one of nature’s hardest gemstones, making it a lasting choice for both classic jewellery and modern engagement rings.
COLOR AND CHARACTER
Rubies appear in a wide spectrum of red, from bright, vivid tones to deep, intense color. Pigeon Blood Red is especially associated with exceptional saturation and purity of color.
Rubies with a clean, vivid red color, high transparency and balanced proportions are generally the most desirable.
Larger natural rubies with attractive color and no heat treatment can command exceptional prices. Documented origin from Burma (Myanmar) or Mozambique may also influence value.
